Ever since I said this “CareerBuilder, I have alerts set up and the jobs are so old.”

Now, I have been getting current job alerts 1-2 days new.

But still no jobs for me to apply for yet.

I went back to update my résumé. That is when I remembered the one thing that really bugs me about CareerBuilder.

Their copy and paste resume option. It doesn’t copy the résumé as formatted. That is one thing CareerBuilder is still so old. Every other site has an editor.

We all have to learn new skills all throughout our life. Why not learn how to use the left hand too?

Got 2 hands why not use both hands?

I thought of how people with disabilities learn how to cope. I can learn too.

My first tries at learning how to write left handed. I started out writing backwards. I managed to learn to write ledgible.

Writing left-handed come in real handy for when I had a workplace injury 15 years later. I couldn’t use my right hand for writing for six weeks. My writing was good enough to fill out required paperwork and sign my name on my check.

Later on I tried other things with my left hand. I found I was a natural at many things; even cutting with a knife.

This has helped me up to today; on the job, in cooking and baking. I have some difficulty using one hand for long periods of time, due all the hard work my hands have endured in factories. I cope by switching hands and I never slow down.

My son happened to be left-handed and I didn’t really notice. When I did realize he was struggling to write, I was thinking it might because he was being taught to write right-handed. To him it was probably backwards; just like I found out when I first tried to learn.

But he died before ever got the chance to find a way to help him.

These are a few of the tricks I have learned by experimenting.

On the homepage find Job Seeker Tools.
Go to My Résumé.
Pick a résumé you want to use. (On Job Center of Wisconsin 3 résumés are allowed.)

Go to bottom of the page to find these selections.

Select Preview/Print

A prompt appears on the screen to open or save.
Select open.

Then edit to customize the résumé or copy and paste to websites. Copy and paste in Word for best results. Proofread before saving.

You can also rearrange the résumé.

If you don’t like it, just close it out.

Stay logged in to Job Center of Wisconsin to go back to your résumé, to start editing again.
This is good for when you need a current, customized résumé for an interview. Just print it when satisfied
 

I keep hearing about customizing resumes and overhearing people not knowing that they CAN do things with the résumé on Job Center of Wisconsin.

I also believe the job counselors do not know this about Job Center of Wisconsin résumés. I never hear them show people how to do it.

(On Job Center of Wisconsin 3 résumés are allowed.) I am currently experimenting with having 3 résumés on the site. Each résumé customized. All 3 are active and searchable. I have noticed more views since having 3. But no bites yet.

And I found the link to view a what is seen by an employer.  Go to Update resume, then to the Finish /Activate, then select Preview Your Match Profile.

The link is the preview what is seen by an employer when they are using Job Center of Wisconsin to search for candidates. Not the resume. That is why the employer contacts you for a full resume. 

I knew this feature was there but never really read it before.

I was hoping employers viewed the whole resume too. Not just a preview.

I like all the Plastic Injection Molding Machine Operator/Extruder assignments I had, because I was able to work with 2-3 machines, there was something different all shift and every day, I was able to move around to help others.

I would not mind working as Plastic Injection Molding Machine Operator/Extruder, full-time, for a very long time.

My work experience and skills also gives me the ability to also work as:

•Ceramic Injection Molding Machine Operator
•Compression Molding Machine Operator
•Punch Press Operator
•Ultrasonic Plastic Welding Machine Operator
•Hydraulic cutting, Stamping, Riveting Machine Operator
•Quality Control Inspector

I also like work where I am able to work in many different departments. I wasn’t moved around because I wasn’t a good fit for the departments. It was due to necessity and I was given the opportunity to learn and work in those departments. I did the work and completed the work required.

I like it when I can contribute in many different ways.

It is probably why I like the temporary assignment I have been doing.

Quality Control Inspector/Sorter:
4 assignments with one client for 1 year.
I inspect, sort, gage, and test fasteners, eliminating defective parts.

But I really want to be working as Plastic Injection Molding Machine Operator/Extruder, full-time, for a very long time.

When I taught people to work in assembly.

There were holes, notches, or markers, to let the assembler know where linings or leather parts were to be placed.

When it came to lining up parts with notches and holes, my best solution for proper and efficient alignment, I placed a white sheet of paper on the assembly table.

This helped the assembler see the notches and holes. When the assembler could see the holes or notches, they could align it correctly, at a faster pace.

I have managed to:

• pay off debt
• keep rent paid
• kept up with my bills
• keep food on the table
• send my children gifts for birthdays and holidays
• sent my husband money as needed

Service the car, and make major repairs

• replaced all 4 tires
• replaced the brake line and 4 brakes
• replaced the starter

The only assistance I get is unemployment and food stamps

Food stamps is only 67.00 per month.

I was only tempted once to seek assistance for rent, when my unemployment was only $99.00 per week. There was no way to save up and pay rent with that amount.  Luckily my benefit year was up and my benefits increased just in time for paying the rent.

I couldn’t even afford to drive to the store for groceries. I managed to keep a full tank of gas for one month, I knew there was no way I could afford to fill up. I was ready for job interview only.

The job center is just across the street, it was the only way I could job hunt for free. This helped me save on electricity and phone too.  All services; counselors, computer, fax, printer, copies and phone are free.

I went everyday because I didn’t want to give up, I would go crazy sitting home alone worrying. I didn’t people to say I didn’t even try to get a job.

How I am surviving now?

Now my benefits are where I have to save up 3 weeks to pay my rent.

I live without; DVD players, stereo, computer, cable, it helps me save on electricity. Sometimes I live without heat. I live without AC in the summer.

All I have for entertainment is a tv converter box and antenna for my used old tv, reading, cooking, baking, arts and crafts, walking, church events and a few battery operated games.

I still go to the job center everyday because I don’t want to give up, I would go crazy sitting home alone worrying. I don’t want people to say I didn’t even try to get a job. 

I research jobs, create cover letters and resumes, network on 2 social media sites, read and take part in blogs, and write my own 2 blogs.

Thanks to the temporary jobs and short-term jobs..

I learned, I do have the same work ability as I did in my last job in 2000, when I decided to be a stay at home mom.

I found out I was great working as plastic injection molding machine operator, it was a perfect fit!

I learned some new skills and I am very adaptable!

I kept finding work! I am still standing! I keep on keeping on!
